Privacy in the Nutrizle app

The Nutrizle app does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no login, and no server that stores anything about you or your child. Everything the app remembers stays on your phone, and deleting the app deletes all of it. We built it this way on purpose. An app used by children should hold as little as possible.

1. Who is responsible

2. What stays on your device

The app saves the following on your phone so it works between sessions, and so a story still plays at bedtime when there is no internet. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

Your settings

  • Your chosen language, and whether you have been through the welcome screen
  • Which allergens you have excluded and which nutrients you are interested in
  • Which units you read amounts in, and how many people you cook for

Your kitchen

  • Recipes you have saved or liked
  • Your meal plan for the week, and which week the planner is showing
  • Your shopping list, including items you added yourself and items you have ticked off

Your stories

  • Which episode comes next, which ones have been heard, and which have been bookmarked
  • How far through an episode the listener got, so Resume knows where to return
  • Which episode a parent has chosen for tonight, and when they chose it, so the choice can expire after one night
  • Which characters appear in tonight’s story, and whether a parent has locked that choice
  • The audio and video files themselves. Each episode’s narration and each adventure’s short cover video are downloaded once and kept on the phone, so bedtime does not depend on a connection.

Pictures

  • A profile photo, if a parent chooses one. The parent crops and zooms it inside the app, and the cropped result is saved as an image file in the app’s own private storage on the phone. The image is never uploaded and we never see it. It is removed by "Delete all my data" in Settings and by uninstalling the app.
  • The cartoon friend a child picked as their picture. This is one of twelve characters drawn for the app. It is not a photograph and not a name, and it says nothing about the child.

Reminders

  • Whether you have switched on the optional bedtime reminder, and the time you set for it. The reminder is scheduled by your own phone. It is not a push notification, there is no push service and no token, and nothing about it is sent to us. We cannot tell whether you use it.

3. Deleting what the app has kept

"Delete all my data" in Settings clears your settings, your saved and liked recipes, your meal plan and shopping list, your story progress and bookmarks, your pictures, the bedtime reminder, and every downloaded audio and video file.

It leaves one thing in place on purpose: the app’s own content catalogue, meaning the published list of recipes and episodes. That list is identical for everybody, holds nothing about your family, and deleting it would only force the app to download it again.

Uninstalling the app removes everything, including the catalogue. We cannot recover any of it, because we never had it.

4. What we deliberately do not do

  • We do not ask for a name, an email address, a date of birth, or any information about your child.
  • We do not ask about allergies or health in a way that reaches us. Your allergen filter is applied on your phone and stays there.
  • There is no advertising in the app, and no advertising software in it.
  • There is no analytics or tracking software, and no crash reporting service.
  • We send no push notifications. The only notification the app can show is the bedtime reminder you switch on yourself, and your own phone schedules it. We have no way to send you anything.
  • We do not sell or share data, because we do not have any to sell or share.

5. When the app connects to the internet

The app contacts our own servers, and no one else’s, for three things:

  • Content updates. New recipes and stories are downloaded so the app can grow without you reinstalling it. The request only asks for content; it sends nothing about you. Each update is cryptographically signed, and the app checks the signature before using it, so a file that has been altered on the way is rejected rather than trusted.
  • Story audio and video. Episode narration and the short adventure cover videos are downloaded from our own server when you first play them, then kept on the phone. This is an ordinary file request. It sends nothing about you, and every listener asks for exactly the same file.
  • Character pages. The augmented reality characters are shown from our own site, inside a view that is locked to our own domains and cannot navigate anywhere else.

Like any request to any website, these reveal your device’s IP address and browser identification to our web server, which writes them to a standard access log. We use those logs only to operate and secure the service. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working and secure service (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

We do not archive or keep copies of these logs. They are discarded by the server within roughly 24 hours, usually within a few hours. Our hosting provider may keep its own operational logs under its own retention policy, which we do not control.

The app does not send any request to any third-party company. The character pages load only our own files, including our own fonts, so no external service ever sees your device.

6. Children

The app is designed for families. Accounts, settings and anything involving money sit on the parent side, behind a parental gate.

The children’s part of the app lets a child view characters, hear the nightly story, bookmark episodes they liked, choose a cartoon friend as their picture, and see when a grown-up has picked a special episode for that night. None of it collects anything.

There is no text field anywhere in the children’s part of the app. A child cannot type a name, or anything else, because there is nowhere to type it. Choosing a cartoon friend from a list of twelve is a tap, not an entry.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, because the app does not collect personal data from anyone.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to complain to a supervisory authority.

In practice, because we hold no personal data about you beyond server access logs, most of these rights are satisfied by the app itself: everything is on your phone, and you can see and delete it at any time. For anything concerning our server logs, write to hello@nutrizle.com.

You may also complain to a data protection authority: in our case der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, or the authority in the country where you live.

8. Purchases

If you buy a subscription, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. Google’s own privacy policy applies to that transaction.

9. Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
